Who We Are
OGA volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization. Established in 1990, the Tournament Assistance Group (TAG Team) was initially created to support OGA Championships. Today, it has evolved into the driving force behind these events. The TAG Team plays a crucial role in OGA Championships, Oregon Junior Golf, OGA Tour events, and USGA Qualifiers, contributing to over 100 events annually!
What We Do
The duties of a TAG Team volunteer may include roles such as Forecaddie, Pace of Play Checkpoint Official, Scoring Official, Starter, Roving Rules Official, or Volunteer Coordinator. Upon arriving at the golf course, volunteers will check in with the Tournament Director to receive their assignment and pick up necessary supplies, such as a clipboard, radio, starter's sheet, local rules sheet, pace of play schedule, and cart key. Every TAG Team member should carry the USGA Rules of Golf, local rules sheet, scorecard and pencil, pairings sheet, watch, tape or string for measuring, lanyard with name badge, and a radio.
While volunteering, the OGA will provide meals and the appropriate uniform and name badge. Volunteers should wear the standard uniform while on duty, which includes a collared shirt or polo with a visible OGA logo, khaki pants, shorts, or skort, and your name badge.
There are many benefits to volunteering. Those who volunteer for more than 60 hours are eligible to attend the annual volunteer appreciation day. Volunteers who work 80 hours or more are eligible to receive an OGA Exceptional Service Card for the following year. Please note that volunteers should not expect to play golf at the course they are volunteering at. The OGA TAG Team is an amazing volunteer community that has many positive impacts. It is fun, creates lifetime friendships, and plays a vital role in the game of golf throughout Oregon and SW Washington.
