Come travel with the OGA! We always need help at events outside the Portland area. If you have the time and ability, we would greatly appreciate the help. Traveling with the OGA offers a fun and unique volunteering experience. Since traveling crews are small, it's a great way to engage with other volunteers, get to know the OGA staff better, and see OGA events from a new perspective.
Things to know when volunteering to travel:
Travel Hours: You can earn additional hours when participating in events that require the OGA to travel to a different region to host the event. These travel hours are awarded only when the OGA is specifically traveling to the following areas:
Travel hours are only granted to volunteers who are traveling with the OGA from outside the event location. Volunteers who live in the area where the event is being held are not eligible for travel hours.
Lodging: If you don't have your own accommodations, the OGA can provide lodging. Typically, we rent a house, so you may share a bedroom and bathroom unless you are a couple, in which case we may be able to accommodate you. Lodging is only provided for those who can work multiple days and is available at the discretion of the OGA. Volunteers should not expect to be reimbursed for lodging unless prior approval is given.
Travel and Carpool: Due to the nature of OGA vehicles and the number of staff traveling, it is unlikely that you can ride with OGA staff. However, the OGA encourages and can help coordinate carpool arrangements. Travel costs will not be reimbursed.
Food and Beverage: Meals are always provided while working. Volunteers should not expect the OGA to pay for meals beyond the event. Often, the OGA may arrange dinner or a meal after the event, which are special occasions to socialize with fellow volunteers and OGA staff.
We hope you will consider traveling with the OGA. Volunteering can sometimes be lonely, where you check in for your shift and may hardly interact with anyone other than players or spectators. However, traveling with the OGA is a fantastic opportunity to socialize with other volunteers and explore different parts of the state and golf courses!
